Estudio longitudinal de la calidad de vida, estado de ánimo y dependencia funcional de los pacientes afectados por ictus en Extremadura

Abstract

Stroke is a big public health problem. Because of its morbidity and mortality causes significant personal, family and social cost, being the leading cause of disability in adults. The aim was to identify the main determinants of health-related quality of life, to establish the degree of dependence of these patients and the evolution, and to define which factors influenced these variables at 6 months of stroke. A prospective study of consecutive patients admitted to a stroke unit was performed. Patients were enrolled between August 2009 and December 2010. Sociodemographic and clinical data, particularly those to health-related quality of life, mood and level of dependence in activities of daily living were recorded. Data were collected at three different times: 48 hours after admission (to record patients´ reported baseline status during the week prior to the stroke), at hospital discharge, and six months after the stroke. The results obtained, establish that at 6 months of stroke: 1) the impact on the physical and mental domains of health-related quality of life was influenced by the severity of the stroke, the degree of dependency and female sex. 2) the level of dependence in activities of daily living was associated with age, stroke severity, depression and motor impairment and 3) comorbidity influenced the mortality and poor functional recovery.
