Hip fracture is a frequent health issue in elderly people which carries significant morbidity and mortality, impairment of quality of life and functional status. The aims of the doctoral dissertation was to identify the main determinants of health-related quality of life, to objectify the functional capacity of these patients, to know the evolution and what factors influenced these variables 12 months after the surgical intervention. Prospective study in the Traumatology and Orthopedics units of two University Hospitals from June 2015 to June 2017. Sociodemographic and clinical data were recorded. Health-related quality of life was measured with EuroQol 5D 3L and Short Form-12, mood using the Yesavage Depression Scale. Functional capacity using the Barthel Index and the Lawton and Brody Scale. Data were collected at 4 times: admission (situation two weeks before the fracture), and at 1 month, 6 months and 12 months. Study approved by the Ethics Committee. Significantly decreased in quality of life, especially in personal care, pain/discomfort, habitual activities, mobility and anxiety/depression. The decrease in quality of life is effective the first month and lasts at least 12 months after the intervention. The perceived quality of life at one year was positively associated with better baseline instrumental functional capacity, and negatively with age and worse baseline mood. Regarding functional capacity and mood, throughout the study a significant decrease in scores was observed.
