The production of electrical energy is currently a problem in several areas: political, economic, social and environmental. This is due to the fact that energy consumption is higher than in past decades and is expected to increase in the years to come. However, this energy source has a major disadvantage, namely the production of combustion residues. Among the combustion residues, biomass bottom ash has been the least studied by-product for reuse, so in most cases it is destined for landfill. Once their suitability has been determined, sustainable bituminous mixtures are developed with biomass bottom ash and bitumen emulsion, determining their physical and mechanical properties in comparison with traditional bituminous mixtures.
