Abstract

The present comunication studies the monumental canvas called "The Apotheosis of Saint Teresa and The Apotheosis of the Carmelite Order", that Pancho Cossío painted between 1950 and 1956, for the Madrid parish presbytery of Saint Teresa y Saint José. Such analysis will contextualize those art treasures in the trayectory of the painter as well as in the debate that was taking place at the heart of the church, on the eve of the Second Vatican Council, regarding the validity of the contemporary arts at the service of evangelization.
