Abstract

This article analyses some environments factors that had been developed in the planning, design and construction of roads during the latest years: on one side, the on-site soils and other materials of industrial wastes reworking; and another side, the new environmental conditions that introduces the Kyoto Protocol application. Both aspects are very related. Suistainable roads engineering involves now the study of the environment affections steps of the road construction, of the point of view of the construction, the materials used, and the users. Soils treatments and stabilizations reduce the environment affections, allowing the use of the on-site materials and, beside, has made possible to use in the roads construction waste of industrial process and building demolition. Finally, the Kyoto Protocol has introduces new variables in the environmental analysis of anyone human activity that still we don¿t consider of suitable form in the roads engineering. In the present article we study the most important, but not the only: the materials reworking and hot mix asphalt.
