Abstract

Introduction:The respiratory system is a complex entity of anatomy structures, related amongst them, with different functions but complementary. The nasal respiration is essential for a correct body development. The respiratory pattern changes from nasal to bucal by the influence of various factors and due to that fact alterationsin the organism are produced. Aim:Our principal aim is to study the bucal respiratory habit. What is more, we will evaluate the local and systemic impacts in the paediatric patient. Material and method:We did a literature review, by searching scientific relevant articles by using different databases.Results/Discussion:The oral respiration produces morphologic, functional, postural, behavioural and general health changes being the rhinitis and the tonsillar enlargement the etiological factors more common. As a matter of fact, a habit that can be diagnose with different methods should be treated by a multidisciplinar team. Conclusion:The oral respiration shows a close relationship with its etiologies. The general and craneofacial harmful effects will depend on how much time is the habit established in the patient.
