Abstract

This research addresses cognitive intervention from the Occupational Therapy approach in people diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment who are detected in Extremadura and attended by the Plan Integral de Atención al Deterioro Cognitivo de Extremadura(PIDEX) in the public neurocognitive rehabilitation services of Cáceres as a non-pharmacological treatment. Moreover, a study has been carried out to characterise the cognitive reserve profile and occupational performance of people with cognitive impairment using a cognitive reserve questionnaire and a cognitive screening test as a reference. The purpose of our study is to characterize cognitive reserve and occupational performance implications in people with mild cognitive impairment. This study describe the importance of engaging occupationally along the whole life-course as a potential protective factor in ageing, and includes a perspective of occupational therapy regarding the hypothesis of cognitive reserve. The ageing of the population and the prevalence of degenerative diseases such as dementias emphasizes the importance of early detection of mild cognitive impairment and the promotion of healthy ageing.
