Resumo

In clinical practice, traditionally external connection implants have been used because they were the first to appear and, therefore, the most used. However, different studies point to some improved results in internal connection implants. Evaluating factors such as biomechanical performance, adjustment of the components and bacterial filtration, it has been verified that internal connection implants present better absorption and distribution of the stresses and, therefore, a lower index of loosening and fracture of the set screw. In addition, the systems that benefit from the Morse taper theory achieve that the implant, pillar and screw act as a single block, providing better results in comparison with the external connection implants and the internal ones without Morse taper.
