Cronología y secuencia de erupción de la dentición permanente. Actualización en la población infantil

Abstract

In order, to develop prevention and treatment protocols in pediatric, orthodontic and forensic dentistry, it is vitally needed to study the sequence and chronology of eruption of the permanent teeth. Logan and Kronfield established that the eruption of permanent teeth started at the age of six and finished at the age of 13, except the third permanent molars. Nevertheless, in later studies this range of age has been modified due to an early puberty, an improvement in the nutrition and due to other factors, such as, race, weight, and heigh. Our objective is to get to know the current situation about the chronology and sequence of permanent dentition. We did a bibliographic review in different web browsers, such as, PubMed, Scielo and Dentistry and Oral Science. We applied an advanced strategy searching with “AND” and “OR”. The results warn us that the permanent teeth erupted earlier always in the female sex. All the authors agree that the first tooth to erupt is the lower central incisor and the last one is the upper second molar. Despite this fact, regarding the media age of eruption there was not agreement between the authors. Therefore, we can conclude that permanent teeth erupt before in the mandible than in the maxilar. The most prevalent sequence in the maxilar was: first molar, central incisor, lateral incisor, first premolar, second premolar, canine and second molar. In the mandible was: central incisor, first molar, lateral incisor, canine, first premolar, second premolar and second molar. To conclude, we noticed an extremely direct relation between the eruption time of the temporal teeth and the permanent teeth.
