Resum

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the orthopedic surgeon’s handedness and the correct positioning of the acetabular component in total hip arthroplasties. Secondly, the possible relationship between this dominance and the laterality of the surgical procedure to be performed, whether right or left hips, is analyzed. Two different groups were created. Group A corresponding to 20 hips operated by a right-handed surgeon and group B consisting of 20 surgeries performed by another left-handed surgeon. Measurements were made on post-operative control AP pelvic radiographics using the hospital’s ray finder. For anteversion valuation, the Widmer´s method was used. With this work we have demonstrated a greater difficulty for the correct implantation of the acetabular component by our left-handed surgeon in the case of performing left hips arthroplasties.
