Throughout the last ten years, the advance of the information and communication technologies have led to a disruption in all the economic areas, being the financial sector one of the most advanced in the digital transformation, since It has been adopting new technologies for an improvement in efficiency and the services offered to its customers. This transformation is indispensable to achieve the entities' competitiveness required and has forced the banks to analyses the role they want to perform in the market and their position relative to the competitors, to design an actuation plan through new strategies. This paper analyses the structural changes in the financial market, the improvements that bank entities should implement to maintain their competitiveness, and the need to design regulation and tracking systems towards the maintenance of financial stability and customer protection.
