Being aware of the role of the incisor position in facial esthetic and faced with the difficulty of deciding which standard to choose when cephalometrically analyzing our patients, we set ourselves the objective of researching, through systematic review, the current criteria on the incisors’ ideal position, taking into account both the esthetic andstability performance. The use of the cephalometric method is being increasingly questioned. In general, there is an interest to achieve the esthetically accepted profiles currently accepted by society. The articles show studies on the influence of the incisor position on the soft tissues, however, they do not take into account the influence of incisors on occlusion, masticatory function, or treatment stability. In the studies included within this review, it is observed a relapse that is due mainly to physiological forces acting on the teeth.
