Giant primary lipoma of the mesocolon is an extremely rare neoplasm. There are very few cases reported in surgical literature worldwide. We report a case of giant intraperitoneal lipoma in a 48-year-old woman, with a history of abdominal pain. Abdomen ultrasonography and CT scan of abdomen showed a large encapsulated tumor. It was successfully removed, preserving the blood supply of ascendens colon. The tumor measuring 18x14 cm. and weighing 1200 g. Post-operative recovery of the patient was smooth and histopathology confirmed the benign nature of lipoma. The patient remains well 6 month after surgery, without recurrence of the disease. Along with a review of the literature, the incidence, clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, complications and treatment of the giant mesocolon lipoma are discussed.
