Resumo
Intermuscular lipomas are rare soft tissue tumors of mesenchymal origin. A case of large intermuscular lipoma in a 56 years old woman, localized in the left thigh, is presented. MRI and CT demonstrated a tumor displacing the muscles of the thigh. The large size of the tumor produced deformity of the thigh. Surgical excision was carried out. The mass was removed in bloc, while protecting the sciatic nerve. Histopathologic examination showed a giant intermuscular lipoma, of 19x12 cm. and 805 gr., comprising mature fat cells without the involvement of muscle fibers, with no evidence of cellular atypia, mitosis or necrosis. The patient recovered and was discharged 2 days after surgery. A 6-month follow-up carried out and no recurrence was detected. The aim of this study was to report a giant intermuscular lipoma of the thigh and discuss the epidemiology, clinical manifes- tation, imaging characteristics, differential diagnosis and treatment this pathology.
