Abstract

Spain has a relevant past and present in the history of dance in general and popular tradition in particular since the most remote times, as history records. There are many popular dances from the Iberian Peninsula that have spread to different parts of the world. However, we must highlight the need to carry out research in this area given the scarcity of information we have. In As far as regional dances are concerned, the situation is even more pronounced, given the oral transmission of this legacy. The group Choirs and Dances Tierra de Barros from Almendralejo in Badajoz has contributed significantly for more than fifty years to alleviating this situation through the development of a project that combines research, teaching and the dissemination of dance and music from Extremadura. Raising society's awareness of the existence and value of a dance cultural heritage is an objective that is achieved with proposals in which research and education go hand in hand, as the study example shows. Discovering the roots of regional dances and dancing them is transmitting a direct and living witness of the customs and cultures that make up our history and heritage. For all these reasons, this article presents a study on the Tierra de Barros group, to draw a trajectory and disseminate its research results and dissemination of Extremaduran regional dances through a pedagogical project that is the backbone of its existence and mission. .
