Resumen
Since the discovery of penicillin, medicine has beendeveloped around the availability of antibiotics to fightinfections. However, the adaptive capacity ofbacteria and their rapid multiplication have led to theemergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as asurvival mechanism, which represents the greatesthealth challenge nowadays. A study published in2018 by Upreti et al. revealed that 56.9% of skininfections were caused by Staphylococcus aureus [2].Staphylococcus aureus is a clear example of theresult of decades of indiscriminate antibiotic use andrepresents the connection between the treatment ofwounds or skin lesions with antibiotics andnosocomial infections associated with long-stayhospital patients [3]. This bacterium can enter thebloodstream leading to circulatory, respiratory, andeven bone infections, which is not only a skin problembut a potential systemic problem.
