Signaling Mechanisms during Aging and Disease
Leader: Jesús Romero Pozuelo
Research unit: Unidad de Investigación Biomédica UIB-UAX
The laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms of cellular signaling in both normal and pathological human physiology. We primarily work with the MAPK and mTORC1 signaling pathways, focusing our studies on aging and diseases caused by it, such as cancer or Alzheimer's. Our research is based on the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and their derivation into various tissues, including 2D cultures, 3D structures, or organoids. Our objectives are 1) to deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases and 2) to develop platforms—based on the development of human organoids—that can be used for preclinical studies.
